Becoming a Permanent Resident option 1

One way to become a permanent resident is by time. After 4 years of having your temporary resident card you can apply to be a permanent. You have to go to the immigration office in Mexico near you and start the paperwork. Once approved, you dont have to make an every year renewals anymore, the permanent resident card is valid for 10 years after that you have change it and have to take some new pictures (we change our looks with time).

Besides the paperwork you have to pay two fees to immigration. One for checking your case to see if you apply and it is around $67 usd it has to be pay in pesos in a mexican bank. Two: The fee to become a permanent $261 usd, again it has to be pay in pesos in any mexican bank, dont you ever do any payment at the immigration office.

Being a resident in Mexico

In order to live as a resident in Mexico, you have to start the process in a mexican consulate preferably closer to the place where you live.

Here is the process:

  1. You make an appointment in a Mexican consulate
  2. They make you an enterview and if you are autorize they going to put a stamp visa in your passport (it could be a temporary o permanent visa).
  3. After that, you have six month to enter Mexico and apply for exchange your stamp visa for a resident card (It is called “Canje”). Here is where I como to the scene, I prepare all your paperwork and submit it at the immigration office along with your stamp visa.
  4. Immigration will process the documentation submitted, authorize and inform you to go to their office so they can take your fingerprint, signature and photo. (biometics)
  5. Finally you get the immigration resident card is size like a drivers license.
